Happiness. It's relative.
My husband found my black bra. It had gone missing because I sometimes dispense with my bra while I’m watching TV downstairs because, well, you know how it gets to feel around news hour. I was on a Zoom call this morning, chairing a meeting, when I heard my office door open. And there he was, in his shorts wearing my black bra. Not everyone has a husband who would put on his wife’s black bra to announce its return to civilization, but I do.
The local campaign I’ve been helping with has gotten seriously dirty. Today, our opponent basically called the people in my neighborhood “pro-genocide Zionists.” I’m not pro-genocide (is anyone?) and I’m not a Zionist (not sure what that entails) but I am a Jewish sympathizer having been married to a Jewish man for forty years and shepherding three kids through the bar/bat mitzvah process which is, let me tell you, not nothin’.
Because I am old and could give a rip, I take exceptions to insults such as the above. I’ll be damned if I’ll have my sweet husband and my peace-loving, serene neighborhood filled with rabbis and their wives, and their exuberant and playful children labeled as pro-genocide Zionists. So I talk back. Social media makes this easy. Otherwise, I’d have to write letters to the editor which takes a lot of time and then they always edit you, you know?
We have lost the base to our wok. I am a master of fried rice and had a plan to make an extraordinary dish with last night’s pork loin, celery, green and red peppers, onion, garlic, water chestnuts, and so many other wondrous things but now, alas, I will have to make fried rice in a frying pan. Lordy.
Yesterday, by some weird and wondrous quirk of fate, I had lunch with someone I’ve admired for a long time but never had a conversation with. If I detailed how this happened, you wouldn’t believe it. He said God was involved. He’s a pastor so I’ll take his word for it. The conversation was all over the place with a fair amount of truth telling which I wouldn’t have predicted. Being caught off-guard brings certain rewards, I guess.
You made me snort again- maybe actually it was Howard this time…the image in my head!
I am truly sorry you’re facing cultural and religious hate.
