Paper Boats in the Pond

Daily writing prompt
What change, big or small, would you like your blog to make in the world?

Making any kind of change in the world – big or small – is too tall an order for my blog.

There are blogs, podcasts, and Substacks that endeavor to change the world and do. That’s not Red’s Wrap. Here, I write for the sake of writing. And because I think part of legitimate writing is sharing one’s work with other folks, I hit publish. It’s wonderful when a bunch of readers like what I wrote but just as worthwhile to me if only one does.

Because much of what I write about concerns the aging process, it would be nice if readers are moved to rethink their own views on aging, maybe wrestle with ageism and stigma, and consider, for the first time, the tremendous power that lies in advanced age. If someone could feel free or strong or wild because of something I wrote, well, that would be pretty great. It’s not my aim since usually my writing is talking out loud to myself, but it is lovely to think I could have that effect.

And then there’s humor. I have sometimes made people laugh. Actually, I’ve made myself laugh. I wrote a series of conversations between two talking dogs that had me snorting while I typed. I love a good turn of phrase, a sly witticism. Sometimes those are appreciated by others, often just by me.

The key to my writing and why I’m happy doing it is that I don’t have a goal in mind. Or an audience in mind, actually. I just write what I’m thinking and let it sail off. The next day I think something new. My writing is like a tiny armada of paper boats floating across a pond, one by one. Not changing the world, just floating on by. I love that.
