Happiness. It's relative.
Yesterday, I wrote about a new idea for outreach to older adults. Today, after exhaustive research and lengthy strategic planning (well, 24 hours’ worth), I launched Jan’s Senior Corner. You can find it on Facebook here and on Instagram here.
Jan’s Senior Corner is a place for old people to hang out, learn stuff, and cause a little trouble. The idea is to do short videos about aging, the challenges of getting older, and how much fun it is. Contradictory stuff, I know, but that’s the name of the game in the old people’s world. Everything’s great and also scary, difficult but an enormous amount of fun.
Today, I made the first video while walking around the dog park. I knew I needed more delightedness in my life. This hit the spot.
I enjoyed hearing your voice! here I am in Cape Town, RSA, sweltering in the heat (32deg C at 18h00!!) and there you are in the snowy dog park; sorry, but I’m not going out walking …. its too hot! I hope your new project won’t keep you from your blog. Like your big fan, Icescreammama, I love your blog!
Hi Jan. It’s been a million years since I’ve written a blog, and i follow no one anymore – except you. I can’t say I always read, but i enjoy your consistent, bright, creative presence in my in box. I have always found your work/you entertaining and inspiring and i think this video (and your new aging forum) is wonderful. Keep those cheeks red and those fingers tapping. You’ve got a fan in me! 🙂
Oh, my goodness – what an incredible thing to read first thing in the morning! Thank you so much. That really makes doing this worthwhile.
That’s a lovely uplifting message, Jan – well done! 🙂
This is really nice! You have a wonderful voice and I commend you for coming up with the idea.
Fantastic to hear your voice and such a positive message.
I have yet to figure out how to load a video. I have a really old blog template and it won’t do a lot of stuff newer templates do. Also, I can’t find anything else I like. They are all so awfully complicated and my brain isn’t at its sharpest. Maybe later. I also don’t like most of the new formats. But this one is frustrating and with every change they make, harder to use.
That sounds like a fun, interesting blog. If I can get this template to cooperate, I’ll give it a try. Well, maybe in a couple of weeks. I’m still working on healing.
yay! you did it and i’ll see you on facebook –
Love this Jan!
