Find New Ways to Radiate Friday Round-Up on Saturday

My husband is making alligator chili. This seems loathsome to me, but he says it’s just because I don’t like alligators. To which I respond, “who likes alligators?” It smells okay, very spicy, which is a good thing considering. The alligator meat was a Christmas gift. Seriously. So was a pound of ostrich, which we haven’t gotten to yet.

We have been cleaning house. We generally have a pretty tidy house, but we come up short on actual cleaning. Mopping, scrubbing, coming face to face with the infamous shower door – we do these things but irregularly. The effort usually needs to coincide with some momentous event, like important people visiting. It used to be my mother-in-law. Mother-in-laws are magic erasers.

Sequined jacket day is fast approaching. I had the sleeves shortened so I don’t look like a five -year-old dressing up in mom’s outfit but I’m still not 100% on board with the sequins. It feels like a bottle of glitter got upended on me and I’ll leave little sparkles wherever I sit. I’ll radiate all over the place. It’ll be a first. I’ll give a full report in a week.

A lot of writing is about avoiding the hideous things happening in the world. Navalny. Gaza. People shooting guns into huge crowds of people. In our town, a speeding car drove into the side of a day care center. And I’m over here writing about alligator chili. I’m not ignoring what’s going on, I just know when I have nothing to add.

Charged up today about a new idea for outreach to older adults. A combination of super dorky and cutting edge. We talked about this on our dog walk, where all great ideas are born and then usually (and fortunately) forgotten by the time we get back to the car. Not this time, though. We don’t know what we’re doing but it’s going to be great. It is, as they say, going to radiate!

  1. Hmmm …. didn’t know you could eat alligator meat. Learn something new every day. I’ve eaten ostrich, it used to be a very budget friendly choice.

  2. My husband is a Cajun from the Louisiana swamps, so in my time I’ve eaten alligator, and turtle, and frogs while we’ve been visiting over there – and I must admit all tasted absolutely fine! I find it’s more the thought of it that’s the problem… Hope you enjoy your alligator chilli 🙂

  3. This reminded me of the quote from E. Hubbard… “The supreme prayer of my heart is not to be learned, rich, famous, powerful, or good, but simply to be radiant. I desire to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage, and good will. I wish to live without hate, whim, jealousy, envy, and fear…. “

      • 🙏 That’s very kind Jan. Don’t we all have our own radiance? It’s finding ways to let that shine seems to be the challenge. You certainly have found many ways.

  4. Yes, lots of follow-ups please…although perhaps a cleaning follow-up isn’t necessary… unless it is miraculous 🙂
