#34 of 92: Nei to Klippfisk and Scratchy Sweaters

If you had a free round-trip ticket to anywhere, where would you go?

Nowhere. I’d give the ticket to someone else.

The deal is if you can’t do something – because of obligations or logistics or whatever – after a while, you decide you don’t want to do it anyway.

Like we always talked about going to Norway and then we bemoaned that going to Norway would be very difficult considering our new job as guardians for a small child and now, we’re like who cares about Norway anyway? Who wants to go to Norway and wear their scratchy sweaters and eat their fearsome salted fish. Klippfisk – I just looked it up. Nei to Klippfisk, that’s what I say.

So, we are in an era of downsizing our travel expectations to the level of having a nice, uneventful trip from our house to Paulina’s school which is, hey, maybe two miles away. And the trip gets extra big points if we can park at the end of the block to drop her off instead of across the street which is, as we say, ‘more work for Jan’ since I am the one who walks her to the school door.

So, while the question itself is magical, the answer gets fouled by reality. I’m not permitting myself to think of things like this right now lest I bemoan my fate which is never a good thing. Plus, bemoaning runs counter to my new life philosophy of laughing about everything.

In other news, I took a hike today with my little charge and her uncle and it seemed like traveling even though it was only 1.96 miles.

  1. I think hikes are totally “travelling”. Point A to point B, or even in a loop. Think of everything you saw and did, plus the picture to prove it. Travelling indeed!
