From the Ridiculous to the Morally Terrifying Friday Round-Up

Our cat poops like he’s on steroids (he is). I’m no stranger to poop – human and animal (or are those the same thing) – having been a mother of four and an owner of eight dogs. But Herc, the cat, has crossed over to another level, the stratosphere of elimination, the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is ‘roid rage of a whole other dimension, but I am not one to complain. I just pick it up and carry on, you know, because it’s Herc and he truly can do no wrong in my book.

My husband referred to someone’s opinion on an important issue as Neanderthal. To which another person tried to offer up proof that scientists are now thinking Neanderthals were smarter than the current version of human, which in certain centers of power is likely true. Still, those are fighting words, and there’s every chance they’ll be an old guys’ rumble in the alley behind Joe’s Bar one of these nights.

The Musk-Trump fuss-up is precious. If they were in the same room instead of warring virtually, they’d be throwing pencils at each other, that’s how mad they are. Neither one of them knows how to throw a punch, how to really bogart somebody. That’s something you learn on the street or other places in the real world where neither of them ever go. So they’re stuck with X or whatever it’s called now.

The two women sitting in front of us talked every second of the entire nine innings. And I mean constantly with hand gestures and sharing things on each other’s phone. They were in our sight line for home plate, so we had to lean around on every pitch. It’s okay. It’s a free country. It just made me wonder why I don’t know anybody that I’d talk to nonstop for nine innings. Then they bought ginormous plates of nachos which were mesmerizing in another way. The Brewers lost 2-0.

L.A. apparently went off its rocker today about ICE invading the city to round up undocumented workers. Huge demonstrations in the street. Milwaukee is quiet for the time being. Of all the terrible things going on – the insane Medicaid cuts, the tax breaks for rich people, the destruction of key government functions – it is the unchecked actions of ICE that are the most threatening to the future of our country. How to best defend against that threat is both a personal and a political question. I don’t have answers.

  1. You may not have answers, but you have damn good questions. And, good musings, too! Thanks, Jan!
