No One Asked but This is What I Think

No one asked but I’m glad Joe Biden pardoned his son.

First of all, the prosecution was outrageously political with charges far exceeding the normal practice in both the tax case and the gun case. A clue to this is when the prosecutor declined to charge on the gun case (as was the norm considering the circumstances), the world of Trump came crashing down on him. So, as the story goes again and again, the Trumpers brought him to heel. Trump’s ability to force people to do things they know aren’t right is incredible. It’s the whole foundation of the hideousness that lies ahead for the country.

Second, when Joe said he wouldn’t pardon his son, the political environment was very different. We didn’t have the great likelihood of targeted, political investigations and prosecutions. We didn’t have a nominated FBI director say he’d come after opponents on Day One. We didn’t have a cast of unethical and disreputable characters about to run the country. We didn’t have a president focused on revenge – not the subtle tactical kind, political maneuvering and such, but the ‘go after them,’ arrest people and charge them with crimes kind.

It is, as has been famously said, a horse of a different color.

I hope Biden pardons everyone on death row in federal prison along with every low-level federal drug offender. I hope he uses whatever power he has to protect the vulnerable and rescue people who the justice system has overcharged and intends to overpunish. I hope Biden ends his presidency leaving a huge stain of compassion and decency on the White House. I would cheer for that. Real loud.

But what do I know? I’m just a 76-year-old lady who talks about her dogs all the time, who originally thought of writing a post about her cat’s cocktail hour when we put a shmear of wet cat food on the counter just as the sun is setting. He otherwise doesn’t drink, the wine bottle notwithstanding.

Cat or no, every once in a while, if you’re awake while all this is happening in the U.S., you have to let it rip.

  1. At some point Democrats have got to speak plainly, which I think Biden did, for the most part, when describing his reasons. It may be a successful political tactic to grab a hold of something and through some truth/some conspiracy/some feigned outrage — magnify a message from every angle without relenting, but most doing it know they are doing it, as well as those to join in on the pretend. Hunter Biden is/was so obviously this kind of case.

  2. I’m all in on this and I hope that Joe works day and night to do as much good as humanly possible before he departs

  3. I’m with you on this. I am glad President Biden pardoned his son.

  4. Hunter Biden’s pardon is literally the most inconsequential thing among all the horrific things that we have to look forward to come Jan 20th

  5. My attempt to not think about this has not been working particularly well. I was glad too. I couldn’t imagine he’d leave a loved son to the claws of the Trump administration. And you are right. He should pardon a LOT of people most of whom deserve a touch of kindness and mercy.
