Lately, when I greet women I especially like or haven’t seen in a long time, I find myself holding their hands while I talk to them. It’s usually Black women who hold hands with me, it doesn’t seem to be a white thing. It seems completely natural to do this, it makes me feel caring and cared for. Old and a little bit precious.
Last night’s debate made me sick. I woke up in the night and wondered, what is to become of us? And then this morning, I got a grip. But it sure didn’t come easy. Joe Biden’s performance in the debate hit me hard, real hard. I talked about it in a video I made this morning. As they say, talking about it – whatever it is – makes you feel better. In case you’re wondering, I’m still with Joe. 100%.

My oven kicked off a third of the way baking my banana bread which I took as a metaphor for this entire week. Half-baked. Not unsuccessful, just pending – so many things pending. You have to be okay with that, things not being resolved, let them hang from the ceiling like so many half-deflated birthday balloons. Just walk on by. Don’t worry about popping them. They’ll deflate when they’re ready.
We are heading to North Dakota tomorrow to visit the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This means a week of living a tiny life in our tiny camper with our fairly large selves and big dogs. It’s like rolling down the highway in a dollhouse. It makes me feel streamlined and self-sufficient, having one pot to cook in and a single towel for the week. I will post pictures of buffalo.
Unliked past years, my garden is doing well. I did hear from my husband that our neighbor across the driveway has been surreptitiously snipping the flowers off my tomato plants. This is so, he explained, I don’t satisfy myself with a few tomatoes early on in the season but, instead, wait for the mother lode later on. Hearing this make me smile at the neighbor’s house. What a dear little thing to do.
I was worried, but he is clearly the best man, even with a bad night, and he proved himself again on the morning after, as many of us do after a bad night. good man vs. bad man, what’s to debate? have a wonderful trip and I love your metaphor with your oven and your neighbor’s intervention
I left a brief thought on the post video on FB and I still have no idea what I’m going to do come November…Have a lovely trip. A daughter & SIL visited there not long ago. They’ve seen enough buffalo up close and personal for life.
Thank you. I know for certain I will never back Trump so it really comes down to Biden (or an alternate if the Dems push that idea) or just not voting at all. As they say- clear as mud right about now.
What happens here on Red's Wrap is all over the map. There is no single theme, no overarching gripe, no malady of my own or others that dominates. I write about what seems important or interesting at the moment and what aims me toward hope. I write stories, essays, poems - whatever fits the day and the mood. Nothing stays the same, here or anywhere. That's a good thing. Happiness. It's relative.

I was upset the the supposed moderators just let Trump lie and slander without comment, rectification, or rebuttal.

I get it – it’s a crazy time/situation. But I know it will become clear.
