Six Fascinating Things about Today

That my beloved and beautiful dog Swirl just ripped open a plastic bag full of litter box leavings and ate the cat’s poop has affected, at least momentarily, my near worship of him as a once in a lifetime dog.

Said dog was on television tonight because a TV reporter interviewed us about the weather, did we think it being unusually warm in March was nice, which I said, of course, even though I was wearing my L.L. Bean beat-up puffer jacket at the time because, you know, you never know.

We live in a time when one guy runs around saying batshit crazy stuff every day, but what people remember and want to analyze until we all are asleep on the floor from boredom is that Joe Biden paused remembering the deep trauma of his son’s death and couldn’t place the year because, in that moment and probably every other moment, his son’s death is all the time, everywhere, all year, every year.

It fascinates me how people, new to an organization or enterprise, suppose that nobody thought of stuff until they showed up, like everyone already there had just altogether and in one big, tangled lump fallen off the turnip truck.

Dallas Seavey just won the Iditarod which most of us thought he would, but I was rooting for Paige Drobny or Jessie Royer, two women who always place in the top ten but have never been first, still they gave Dallas a run for his money which is a beautiful thing.

I slung hash for homeless people with my son Joe tonight, putting together 130 meals which was a lot of fun in a weird, crazy casserole, overly cheesed, jalapeno cornbread slathered with butter kind of way, more meaningful than 90% of what I do on a daily basis.

  1. Thank you for not making the half eaten cat poop litter a Swirls Chewed Things post. Not sure I really would want to see that mess, or what may have been hacked up afterwards 😉

TV stars all around! Did you get a beer? More importantly did the dogs get some?

  2. And it’s only 9:00 PM. You still have three hours to go!
