I want to read the whole stack of Leslie Noyes’ six-book series, starting with Mayhem at the Happy Valley Motor Inn and Resort and including Second Chances, Wedding, Christmas, Reunion, and Greed, all at the Happy Valley Motor Inn and Resort as well.

I read the first one when it was just published because I’d been following Leslie Noyes as a blogger for years. She’d talked about writing a book, but then we all talk about writing a book, so I figured, sure, write a book. And then she did. And then she wrote five more within the space of about three years. All while I was sitting here debating whether to try a book of short stories.

I came away from the first book feeling like the main character, Paula Arnett, could easily become my best friend. The story mixes a long friendship with a mystery and a lot of sympathetic and wacky characters, like the naked bowling club, seamlessly folded in. Great, engaging writing, terrific storytelling, and people you want to have as friends. Mayhem scored more than 1,400 reviews on Amazon – astonishing for a first book, actually for any book.

Reading this series is always something I intended to do. You know, later, but later is looking like it ought to be now because I’m going to meet Leslie in person in April at the Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop Conference. Time to get started, I think. Thanks for the nudge.
