100 Word Story: Predilection

Hannah had a predilection for cemeteries, especially old ones where graves had sunk and the grass that grew there was thin and soft like old women’s hair.

The best time to go, she thought, was late afternoon, because the sun came through the oaks just so and it felt religious being there, a substitute for going to church which she didn’t do anymore.

Cemeteries should be churches, that’s what she thought. Worship the gone, lay down on the soft grass, sleep and wake up, come and go, bring flowers on sale from the grocery and arrange them in small bunches.
