Happiness. It's relative.

Mary knew it was a prairie chicken right away even though she had never seen one in person or in a book. It was fat and close to the ground and waddled like an old lady who had parked too far from the grocery store.
She crouched in front of the bird which stopped its waddling to look at her. Their eyes met. The chicken’s very beady, nearly squinting, puzzled but not unfriendly, still its gaze was disarming so Mary looked away.
There was room on the path for both of them so they walked on without speaking another word.

What happens here on Red's Wrap is all over the map. There is no single theme, no overarching gripe, no malady of my own or others that dominates. I write about what seems important or interesting at the moment and what aims me toward hope. I write stories, essays, poems - whatever fits the day and the mood. Nothing stays the same, here or anywhere. That's a good thing. Happiness. It's relative.

I knew we had prairie chckens, but didn’t know we had grouse, too!
Even though I’ve heard the name, like Mary I really had no idea so I googled. It’s a grouse! Once I saw the picture I realized that I have seen them on TV. Some still lurk in Colorado so I need to ask my daughters if they’ve ever seen one. I’ll tell them to look for Mary as well 😉
