She pulls the edges of the quilt together and pulls hard. Her husband holds the other end. Together they carry their dying dog out the front door.
They get to the porch stairs. The dog is very heavy.
“I can’t do this. He’s too heavy.” She says, starting to weep.
He waits for her to collect herself. The dog hangs between them in his sling, she catches her breath, sorry.
The sobs come up in her throat. Their dog’s head peaks out from the folds of the quilt. He is silent but alive.
Somehow, they carry him to the car.

What happens here on Red's Wrap is all over the map. There is no single theme, no overarching gripe, no malady of my own or others that dominates. I write about what seems important or interesting at the moment and what aims me toward hope. I write stories, essays, poems - whatever fits the day and the mood. Nothing stays the same, here or anywhere. That's a good thing. Happiness. It's relative.

Jan…I just have no words
Animals have a soul, – a spirit, not extinguished by death. My own dog taught me this with patience and love.
