100 Word Story: Underage Drummer

She was gonna be really mad. Stop talking for a week, that was her deal. The silent treatment. She could go days without talking except she kind of did talk with her eyebrows and how she’d fold and refold the kitchen towel a hundred times during dinner, smoothing it on her lap like it was the Declaration of Independence delivered to her in a scroll. He figured that was the price to pay when he loaded their boy and his drum set into their ‘49 Ford, set on making it to Nancy’s Blue Angel in time to play their set.

  1. What I love about these is that I just want to read the rest of the book! Thank you.

  2. The little you say in this story speaks volumes. This evokes so much: “He figured that was the price to pay when he loaded their boy and his drum set into their ‘49 Ford . . . .”

  3. This is masterful, Jan. The description of her eyebrows and the towel to relay her mood..Really beautifully done
