Street Angels 48 Hours

Many of you have read the stories I’ve posted about my experiences working with Street Angels.

My first experience was several years ago – I was part of the ‘wake-up’ crew at the Street Angels warming room held in the gymnasium of a large southside church. My job was to fold and stack blankets. It was there that I made the transition from thinking of people experiencing homeless people in terms of numbers and outcomes to thinking of them as friends. Trust me, this change in terminology makes all the difference.

Now, I am president of the board of Street Angels. Over the past few years, with the tremendous leadership of co-directors, Eva Welch and Shelly Sarasin, we have built a small but quite mighty street outreach enterprise, entirely supported by charitable donations. At this point, Street Angels is not supported by government funds.

48 Hours is our primary fundraiser. Over 48 Hours (October 22-24, 2021), our goal is to raise $150,000. That money will support our core outreach operation and the establishment of a small warming room to help some of our more vulnerable friends get in out of the cold this winter.

I have a fundraising page and am seeking your support. Here is the link. My focus is specifically on fundraising to help older adults experiencing homelessness. You can read more about that on my fundraising page.

It is very easy to contribute and every single contribution will be deeply appreciated. Please help if you can. If you can’t provide financial support right now, your readership and encouragement are always appreciated.

Thank you!
