Happiness. It's relative.

We have been saved. By ourselves.
Maybe that’s all I need to say. But it feels like I need to say more.
We are changed by what has happened in our country. There are fine parts of us that have been worn away by the steady rasp of cruelty. We felt this happening. It was searing and painful at first, but soon we became numb, and then we were surprised to look at ourselves and see the fine parts gone.
There has been damage done, not just to us as a people, but to us as people. Each of us.
But there’s also been muscle built where before there was weakness. Millions of people, exhausted but made stronger by treading water in the bottomless, terrifying ocean of our country, found their way on to the life raft of the election.
Seventy-four million of us. We saved ourselves. We saved the country.
And now we have another chance to make things right.
Yes!
I feel lighter. Like a weight has been lifted. I laughed & cried during both Biden & Harris’s speeches. It was beautiful to witness the love on that stage when all the family members were up there. But it is not lost on me that half the country voted for Trump and all that he & his people stood for. It is not a time for me to be complacent as we need to make sure someone like does not get a hold of our country again.

I had no idea how corrosive the last four years had been until I listened to Joe and Kamala last night. Two pretty regular people speaking pretty regular sentences of encouragement and hope. And I loved that Joe kept calling us “folks.” And his grin watching the fireworks was the first genuine joy I have seen on a President in four years.
I know. We are all so wounded – we really need these simple, compassionate, sensible words.
Absolutely. And a loving dog.
I almost cried with relief! Well done to those 74 million Americans, maybe the rest will realise it is a Good Thing when they remember after a while how it is to be governed by compassion and, above all, intelligence. Everyone I know throughout Europe celebrated wildly, literally breaking out the champagne, or equivalent fizz (cava for us in Spain, of course).
Also, for the record, I have no fears about Joe not making four years for whatever reason: I think Kamala would step in very competently.
I did cry. Honest to God. They are the perfect pair for this moment.
It is like floating alone on a log at sea, and seeing a small island off in the distance. Sharks in water between; will we make it~? We can and must have hope in the small boat coming to our rescue~!
Exactly!
Well done.
Well said and I’m pretty sure, global relief all round at the outcome. On to a better, kinder future for all of us. As usual, you wrote a brilliant post about current events in the USA. Congratulations!
It really is a new day. Thank God.

How I really feel. I felt headed to the brink of disaster if Trump had gotten reelected. Feel saved.
