Happiness. It's relative.

I want to play tag
It’s just running
I can run
Everybody runs the same
Tag is stupid, they say
We should play ball, they say
Let’s pick teams, they say
I line up and wait
Until the line is gone
Hoping

What happens here on Red's Wrap is all over the map. There is no single theme, no overarching gripe, no malady of my own or others that dominates. I write about what seems important or interesting at the moment and what aims me toward hope. I write stories, essays, poems - whatever fits the day and the mood. Nothing stays the same, here or anywhere. That's a good thing. Happiness. It's relative.

Probably a good strategy!
I really like this—the rhythm and the sounds. Found it on my first visit to Yeah Write, and have enjoyed looking around your blog too.
Thank you!
That’s the worst feeling in a kid’s life! You’ve put it perfectly.
The terse lines really emphasize how disappointed she’s feeling. Nicely done!
Thank you!
Ack! I hated the picking of teams. I love how you strung this out, giving us that anticipation.
Yeah – not one of my favorite childhood memories. But tag and hide and seek, loved.
Every kid’s fear!
I know. Can’t you just feel the dread….
I like the mix of hope and anxiety in this! I was right there with the narrator, remembering that feeling.
The feeling certainly came back to me writing this.
I got picked last almost every time in sports. This rings so true. Great micro!
Thank you!
Oh, as I girl who had very little athletic talent, this smarts:). Right there with you . . .
Yep. Ouch.
Oh, I remember being picked last or close to last. Not fun days. Though, I wasn’t very good at tag either. LOL
