She called as soon as the office opened, determined to be first on the first, but the phone rang busy, the line crammed with eager end-seekers, all not wanting to wait their turn.

Written in response to a Trifextra Writing Challenge: 33 words taking off on this line from Maggie Stiefvater’s The Scorpio Races, “It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.”
I love the cadence to this and that it’s all one perfect sentence.
