Morning Has Broken
If he is in a good mood and not too hungry in the morning, my cat lays down on my pillow next to my head so that when I open my eyes, he is just inches from my face, gazing out the window at the sun rising. He turns to look at me, studies my face like I am new, and brings his forehead closer to touch mine.
This is easily the most joyful moment of the day.

that is such an incredibly sweet ritual. my cat gently taps on my face until I open my eyes, to make sure I am awake to feed him. my daughter told me that cats like to do that because we are their food source, the feeders, and they need to make sure that we are still alive to feed them. if we are not, I wonder what the option is? maybe to consider nibbling on us after a long time has passed ? I like to think it’s just a morning tap hello instead.
My two walk across my back to remind me that they are hungry. You are lucky.
