Flooding Basement Blues

Our basement is flooding but the protagonist in my short story got out of the parking lot. However, she is now stuck elsewhere.

Because of the basement flooding, there is likely to be no hot water tomorrow because, as you know, a rising tide douses all flames, including the pilot light of a water heater.

My partner has spent hours today trying to fix something he has tried to fix so many times that if we were to renew our vows, this object would have to be present.

It is raining so hard that our dogs won’t go outside despite them being sled dogs who, until recently, lived outside with half a plastic barrel as their shelter.

I have considered shaving my head like Sinead O’Connor because I have new clippers and it would be so easy to do. I could wear big earrings.

I have the flooding basement blues because, you know what’s coming, you know what’s the worse thing ever, you can feel it coming. We left stuff on the floor.

From 2020 but appropriate for what’s coming tonight
