Cooking with Kamala

I love it that Kamala Harris dances with no reservation and laughs a lot. She seems like a joyful person. Happy. And I think that is uplifting, inspirational. I want to be like her. Dancing and laughing and joyful.

It has been such a tortured couple of weeks. Joe Biden’s friends lining up to break his heart, interviewers trying to score a big gaffe, his painfully slow descent down the airplane stairs, Covid and isolation, and then melancholy photos of him in a mask walking his dog on the beach. The ditching of a beloved man. It wore all of us out.

And then there was Donald Trump’s vainglorious preening at the Republican National Convention with his fake, two-minute unity speech followed by what seemed like hours of lies and accusations and the celebrations that followed, all the Republicans convinced they’d flatten the old man in the fall. There was a lot of partying on the grave. It was repulsive but prescient.

Enter the laughing, dancing Vice President with a shiv in her shoe. She smiles and talks about her time as a prosecutor, reminds everyone that she’s dealt with ‘all kinds of perpetrators’ and then counts up the last of the Democrat delegates she needs for the nomination. In 24 hours, she made 100 phone calls, got dozens of endorsements, and raised $83 million. As we used to say in the old days of the women’s movement, she can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan.

So, I am pretty happy about this. Sad for Joe Biden but happy that the hunting dogs have quit their relentless pursuit and gone back to the lodge. Delighted at Kamala Harris being the Democratic nominee. It’s like your opponent thought you were bringing a toy pony to a horse race, and you show up with Secretariat.

Anyway, I taste victory. I love fried food.

  1. “with a shiv in her shoe” so good! 😊 and can’t wait!! President Harris

  2. I really liked Biden a lot and I think he was a remarkably good president. But he was old. Garry is a year OLDER than he is and I could see him wincing every time he appeared on TV. That we forget names, nouns, titles, places — but most especially NAMES — is annoying. To have a president who can’t remember than is not merely annoying. It is potentially tragic.

Meanwhile, I’m really happy with Kamala. We need a woman and we I think her prosecutorial abilities will make her a formidable opponent to old felonious T****p.

  3. I will always think of Joe for all of the work and kindness he brought to our country and the world, and for the extremely hard choice that he made for the good of our entire county. this is the ultimate statesman and act of patriotism.

  4. Great post. Yesterday reminded me of the November Saturday when the votes had been counted and Joe Biden declared victory – it was a sunny and warm afternoon.Moving. Your new layout is exciting, except for the light green text that is challenging at 4a.m.ight be better at 4 p.m. so I’ll give it re-read then!

  5. Right beside you Jan! I know with certainty the the GOP and Trump will do as much twisting of the exit of President Biden as they can. I want him not to get lost in this shuffle but to have a strong finish that he can be proud of. I also want him to be able to stand by Kamala and kick Trumps sorry ass all the way back to Mar-a-lago
