150 Words on Urban Nature

Across the street, our neighbor mows his lawn and then he uses a leaf blower to get the grass off his sidewalk. I watch this from my office window. The dandelions are sprouting on our lawn and there are two bunnies who live here under the bushes. We like to think they are descendants of Milton, the bunny whose steady presence next to our porch cheered our way through the first year of the pandemic. We put a dime store picture of a brown bunny on the porch ledge in commemoration. Now I worry about the new bunny couple because a coyote just ran full speed down the middle of the sidewalk across the street. There is no mistaking a dog for a coyote, this was a wild, thin, and intense creature. He ran as if dinner was waiting in someone’s yard down the street. Not our yard. Not today.

  1. And I thought we lived in or near the wild – there are crocodiles in the river, but it’s quite a distance from our home, fortunately, because we have cats! Xxx

  2. We too have coyotes, but so far, our woodchuck lives on and other than howling in the driveway, they have left us in peace. I do notice that all the local cats are gone. It’s why we don’t have a cat.
