Crop Tending

This odd little essay won the 2019 Wisconsin Writers Association Jade Ring for Humor. It isn’t laugh out loud funny – in fact, when I read part of it to the group, there was barely a chuckle. But the judge liked it and I was really surprised and grateful. And, I wear the jade ring whenever I need to feel lucky.
