Wordly

Has anyone ever suggested that you talk too much?

No.

Seriously. No one has hinted that you run on a bit long?

My husband sometimes keeps staring at the baseball game on TV while I’m talking. I take that as a hint.

And so, do you stop talking?

Not until I get to the end of whatever it was. But I condense a lot.

I’ve heard you’re into brevity, at least in your writing. Does that carry over to conversation?

Yes.

Now you’re playing with me.

Not really. If I have something to say, I say it. But usually only once. I don’t feel the need to say the same thing six different ways.

That must take a lot of discipline for an opinionated person like yourself.

It does.

Do you ever let loose and just run on and on and on?

Now and then. Just to remember how it’s done.

  1. I talk. Garry rarely does, but once he starts, he can’t stop. Over all, it works out reasonably well if you discount how much of the time I’m talking and Garry can’t hear me. Even with the cochlear implant, he’s still pretty deaf, . He needs a new set of aids, but can’t them get them until next spring. Only the cochlear side still works. He can’t hear anything in the other ear anymore. What little hearing remained there has gone. After I realize I’m talking to myself because he can’t hear me AND he’s reading captions on the TV, I take that as a cue to start doing something else.

    • This sounds familiar in a bunch of different ways. We have some pretty fractured conversations around here.
