Round 2: Continued Pandemic Requires New Hobbies

Should I take up weight lifting or buy a bonsai tree to trim? Maybe I could go to law school online or create mosaics of wild animals from my smashed good china.

Clearly, I need a new hobby if we’re going to keep having a pandemic.

Half the people in our state are vaccinated. That means the other half aren’t but they are still gadding about town, breathing on people and things, eschewing masks, of course, and behaving as if nothing at all is awry while the rest of us wonder what kind of new incentives will convince them to do the right thing.

The latest idea is giving people $100 to get vaccinated. Good grief. If it works, people say, why not? It’s crazy-making to even argue the point.

The ER doctor who lives across the street made a special point of telling us how things are getting really bad at the hospital, the ER is crammed with new cases she said. She’s trudged through the pandemic since Day 1 so if she says it’s getting really bad, it’s not hyperbole. She just left for her overnight shift. I saw her headlights go on.

It was all cool when we thought getting vaccinated meant that we could weave our way through big concert crowds with a beer in each hand and never worry again about catching anything. But the news now is that we can catch it and we can pass it on. Isn’t that just dandy? Plus the news evolves with the variant – we’re all chasing the ether here.

For the hundredth time, we’re told it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I know exactly who to blame for that.

So, back to my options. I always wanted to take up oil painting. Maybe this is my moment.

  1. I’m so tired of the antivaxers. They act as though people aren’t dying because of their foolishness.

  2. I don’t know if I’m angry or frustrated or some combination of both, but I feel like I’ve moved from a country with some crazy people to a crazy country which still retains some sane people.

  3. I am most angry at the antivaxers who get covid (spreading it in the process) and then tell everyone to get the shot because it is really bad to be so sick.
