Happiness. It's relative.
Mary Shields, the famous Alaskan sled dog racer, told us a story while we were gathered around her dining room table a few weeks ago.
She has a friend who is an artist who lives some distance outside of Fairbanks. Every morning, by 4:30 a.m., the artist is in her studio in the city. Mary asked her once why in the world she was going to her studio so early in the morning and her friend the artist responded, “I can’t wait any longer.”
I’m on the hunt for that, the feeling that I can’t wait to get up and start, to plan, to create, to finish, to start anew.
I haven’t found that feeling yet but I see promising tracks on the trail. I want to be like Mary’s artist friend and say, “I can’t wait any longer” about the work I’m doing. Soon.
