Changing the Story

  1. I think there is a message in here .. not quite sure I have the right words.. but a message about leaving a concurrent narrative so that those that come from the future looking back will have some reference points. For a simple example, I can totally freak out a whole class of nursing students by telling them that nurses and doctors used to smoke at the nurse’s station while charting as a routine occurrence. They take smoke free restaurants and public buildings as a given but it was a hard public health fight. My young nieces have no idea about the fights that have gotten them the real opportunity to go engineering school or business school as well as nursing school.

    • I often feel like I am speaking from the “Land Before Time” when I’m trying to explain anything about the 60’s and 70’s. Someone on FB the other day said that this is the worst time for women since the suffrage movement. Huh??!! Knowledge- perspective-world view — it’s all complicated, I guess.
