Two a Day #21: Orphan Shoe

When I read about people’s adoption experiences now, especially the ones that involve going to other countries to adopt children, I am impressed with the preparedness and the support.

We didn’t have that. In 1986, Nicaragua was a country still at war. The new Sandinista government had banned foreign adoptions except for special needs children. Everything about the country was risky except, as it turned out, how much government officials wanted to get one little boy with a heart condition to the U.S.

In this month-long celebration of love and marriage in honor of our 32nd anniversary, I offer this post about my husband going alone to Nicaragua to bring home this boy. Read about it in Orphan Shoe.
