Happiness. It's relative.
Talked today with a woman just retired from the shelter she founded years ago, she beamed describing bringing homeless people inside, hardest to serve, rough, drunk, rule-breakers, her people, ‘there but for fortune’ she told me, no distance between us and them.
It’s a blessing, isn’t it, when our day puts a beautiful soul in our path. I saw a woman stop to give a homeless man by the freeway exit a bag of McDonald’s with a drink. The look on her face was so compassionate, so longing to do more–and stayed that way even as his response was lackluster. Made me realize it’s out there. We just don’t see it often enough.
Thanks, Jan. Beautiful.
