Face It
We are all just sitting ducks. If you are uncomfortable with that, I’m sorry.
You’re on your own. No one is going to protect you. You might have thought someone was going to protect you but you were wrong.
Maybe this is what the young men in the central city have figured out. No one is going to protect them but them. The only person without a gun is a dead person, they figure. So they get a gun. They understand that there is no protection. We’re all sitting ducks.
There is no vaccine, no mosquito net, no insulin, no seat belt. There is no speed limit, no safety check, no blood alcohol limit. A car can come speeding at you at a hundred miles an hour because there are no rules. There is no protection. We’re all sitting ducks.
A madman can poison our water, snip the brake line of the commuter train, ignite the asbestos hanging in strips from the attic that goes uninspected because, remember, we are all on our own. There is no protection. We’re all sitting ducks.
I was taught to be my brother’s keeper. But I can’t.
My brother’s on his own. He’s a sitting duck.
He’s alone and so am I. There is no protection.

And the choice is to succumb to the fear or work for the change through love. Not easy. And not in a Pollyannish way either . . .
Thought provoking…. some ducks have the choice to fly. There may be no protection but taking action makes us feel a lot better!
I love that thought – that when you thought you are a sitting duck you can actually find your wings and fly. Great insight!
Maybe we can’t protect our brothers or even ourselves but we can help them recover from that gun shot wound or train wreck…

A “sitting duck” isn’t prepared to shoot back. Millions of Americans today legally carry a concealed handgun in public.
One other thing you may not have noticed. Our homicide rate today is about _half_ what it was in the early 1990s.
And another – the media is doing its best to motivates psycho killers by telling them they will tell the world their life story if they will just kill some people in public. Each psycho killer studies the record of the last and tries to outdo it.
And one last – we are hugely drugging our kids now with psychoactive drugs that can lead to violent ideation. Sounds like maybe we deserve it in part.
