It’s What You Do

Even when you are tired, when you are enjoying your evening, when you’re thinking it might not really be an emergency but it might be, you go.

When you want to be home in bed reading and imagining their safe, young, untroubled lives, you go.

When what comes next is coffee out of a machine too hot to carry across a room of other tired waiting relatives and the doctor says yes, you should wait with the others, you go.

No matter how old they are or where or why, when they ask, you go.

You promised. You go.
